Awkwafina
Awkwafina, an American singer and actress began with a series of rap songs that dealt with issues of race and sexuality. Her career expanded to Hollywood when she dropped several rap songs. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her very first musical encounter. She performed on the trumpet. Alongside classical music and jazz, Nora Lum started studying hip-hop when she was in her teens. Following a focus on education, she earned an education in journalism at the college as well as a women's studies major. After graduating, she began to pursue music as her main focus. The song My Vag which was her reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick, became a huge hit on the Internet and eventually appeared on her debut LP Yellow Ranger. On the album, there also were viral songs like Queef (body-positive) as well as NYC Bitchethe cost of $. This latter song was directly tied to Awkwafina's NYC, a 2015 travel guide. She opted to pursue a career as an actor after having completed her two previous endeavors, author and musician. She's appeared in movies like Neighbors 2, Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018 she was able to land breakthrough roles in a handful of high-profile movies like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. That June she issued the EP In Fina We Trust.
